The UK charging build-out is still hiring, even as the sales target softens

EV Charging Operations Teams recruitment

If you sell for an EV charging company and you are weighing your next move, start with the contradiction that defines this market. The government is set to weaken its target for how many new cars sold must be electric UK electric car sales target set to be weakened, and charger rollout hit its smallest quarterly total since 2022 UK electric car charger rollout slows amid worries over EV switch. Yet UK EV sales reached a record 86,000 in March 2026, with BEV growth running at 22-24% year on year UK EV sales reach record high 86,000 in March 2026. Demand for the product is climbing while the policy scaffolding wobbles. That gap is where sales roles live.

Where the money is moving right now

Follow the funding and the contracts, because that is where sales headcount gets signed off. West Northamptonshire appointed Char.gy to deploy more than 3,000 kerbside chargers under LEVI funding West Northants Gets 3,000 Kerbside EV Chargers as LEVI Funding Targets Driveway Gap. BYD delivered its 100,000th EV in the UK and plans 300 flash charging stations by year-end BYD delivers 100,000th EV in UK, plans 300 flash charging stations by year-end. Hawke Electric Vehicles just expanded its hire and sales operations to full nationwide UK coverage Hawke Electric Vehicles Expands Hire and Sales Operations to Full Nationwide Coverage Across the UK. Each of those is a live commercial operation that needs people to close deals, manage accounts and open new territory.

The wider prize is large. The Europe EV charger market was calculated at USD 8.76 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 25.35 billion by 2034 Europe Electric Vehicle Charger Market Size, Share & Trends, 2034. Global private light-duty charging points passed 43 million in 2025 Electric vehicle charging – Global EV Outlook 2026. For a salesperson, that is a decade of infrastructure that still has to be sold, financed and serviced.

What your skills are worth — and what we can honestly tell you

Here the honest answer matters more than a confident one. This week's report carries no salary benchmark for EV charging sales roles. The internal salary sample size is zero, and no market pay figure exists in the data we can stand behind. The nearest public reference is a US-focused document covering Sales and BD among other functions 2026 Mobility Salary Guide, but it does not give UK charging sales figures we can quote, so treat it as directional reading rather than a number to anchor your next negotiation.

What we can say is directional. The market signals above tell you demand is expanding faster than the policy headlines suggest, and expanding demand tends to hold up pay for people who can prove they close. If a recruiter quotes you a precise "market rate" this week, ask what sample it comes from before you let it frame your ask.

How to read the noise before you move

Two forces are worth watching. Energy price shocks are pulling UK households toward EV chargers to cut costs Iran war spikes energy prices – UK homes ditch fossil fuels fast, which supports the demand side. And the electric car grant now offers up to £3,750 off a new EV This spacious family car is now eligible for the full electric car grant, keeping vehicles moving off forecourts. More cars on the road is more pressure on charging capacity, which is more work for the companies that sell and deploy it.

The one genuinely early-stage signal is off-grid. L-Charge raised USD 10 million to scale off-grid charging, though that round is aimed at the US market L-Charge raises US$10 million to scale off-grid EV charging solutions across US. If your ambition is US-based, that is a name to track; if you are UK-focused, keep it on the periphery.

The move worth making

The employers hiring now are charge point operators scaling deployment, EVSE OEMs, and contractors staffing up after winning federal-scale contracts. Aym Recruitment works exactly that patch — EV Charging Sales Teams across the UK — and has placed people into companies securing federal contracts worth billions. Across the last 12 months that has meant 9 placements, so this is a specialist desk, not a volume operation. What that buys you as a candidate: candidates put forward reach interview 66% of the time, and offers we manage hold at 89% acceptance. Before submission, we qualify against the technical and commercial fit the role actually needs, not the version written on the job spec.

If you are a strong closer wondering whether the softened sales target should worry you, the contracts being awarded this week say the build-out has its own momentum. Position yourself against the companies winning those contracts, and let the pay conversation follow proof of what you close.
